The Rise, Fall and Comeback of Princess Britney: A Timeline

August 17, 2008

1998: A Star is Born – Release of first album, Baby One More Time
Britney was phenomenal, a sugary force to be reckoned with. It was the reign of Princess Britney and there’s no turning back. The music video had every girl embracing their uniforms with shorter hemlines and suddenly, pigtails are sexy. Who ever knew?

2000: Second album rocks: Oops She Did It Again!
By the time Britney’s second album dropped on the scene, we all know she can’t be stopped…or can she?

2002 – 2003: Her breakup with N Sync’s lead vocalist Justin Timberlake did not hamper her meteoric rise as she made her first rather cringe-worthy movie Crossroads and released her third (Britney) and fourth album, In the Zone.

Late 2003: In Her Zone
By now, Britney’s at the peak of her career…which got everyone thinking “she’s so lucky, she’s a star” – what can possibly get her down? We all know what that is: Kevin Federline.

2004: Britney fans just want her to be happy, but apparently “happily ever after” was NOT to be, especially when the princess married the pauper.

2005: She wasn’t completely gone at this point yet. You know Britney Spears IS something when she has her own Greatest Hits album.

2006: Blacked out before Blackout
Her marriage was on the rocks (yay, finally), she was struggling with motherhood, a rough career patch and personal problems…infamously made known to the entire world when she shaved her head and entered rehab. Get well soon, prays her diehard fans.

2008: A comeback for the princess, finally…?
Is Britney bitch back for good? I just saw her in the new VMAs spot with Russell Brand and boy, does she look fabulous with coiffed golden locks and her new look! Definitely a refreshing change since her rehab post-Federline post-natal days. Can’t wait for her next album to drop, but meanwhile let’s anticipate our revived Princess of Pop’s performance at the VMAs come September.
